লালসালু সৈয়দ ওয়ালিউল্লাহ রচিত একটি উপন্যাস ।এটি সৈয়দ ওয়ালিউল্লাহর প্রথম উপন্যাস। উপন্যাসটি প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয় ১৯৪৮ সালে। এর পটভূমি ১৯৪০ কিংবা ১৯৫০ দশকের বাংলাদেশের গ্রামসমাজ হলেও এর প্রভাব বা বিস্তার কালোত্তীর্ণ । মূলত গ্রামীণ সমাজের সাধারণ মানুষের সরলতাকে কেন্দ্র করে ধর্মকে ব্যবসার উপাদানরূপে ব্যবহারের একটি নগ্ন চিত্র উপন্যাসটির মূল বিষয়।
আমাদের গ্রাম-বাঙলার অজ্ঞতাপূর্ণ তৎকালীন সমাজের এক সত্যিকার রূপ দিয়েছেন লেখক লালসালু উপন্যাসে। সমাজের ধর্মীয় সংস্কার, কুসংস্কারের প্রচ্ছন্ন দাপটের কাছে মানবতার অসহায়ত্ব উঠে এসেছে লেখায়। নিরুপায় অবলা নারীত্বকে খুব যত্ন করে তুলে ধরেছেন লেখক। সমাজের ব্যক্তিবিশেষের অপপ্রভাবের ফলে প্রায়শই চাপা পড়ে ন্যায়, সত্য - এবং যুগ যুগ ধরে আমাদের দেশে এই ব্যাপার বিদ্যমান। আরেকটা ব্যাপার বেশ ভাল লাগলোঃ তা হলো - এই বইয়ের পটভূমি অনেক পুরনো হলেও সমাজের কাঠামো, প্রভাব-প্রতিপত্তি, ক্ষমতালোভী নেতৃস্থানীয় মানুষের যেসব মূল বৈশিষ্ট্য তুলে ধরা হয়েছে; সেগুলো আজও সত্য।
Lalsalu by Syed Waliullah is a popular Bengali Novel which is written by Syed Waliullah. Literary mean of Lalshalu is "Read Cloth" but Translated as Tree without Roots. The book was the first book of Syed Waliullah and first published in 1948. Lalshalu was also translated in English and French. Syed Walliullah is well known for his first book "Lalshalu". Main character of Lalsalu is Majid who is a poor man from a devout muslim background. Majid comes to a remote village. He declares an old grave to be the majar of a Pir (a Muslim saint), covers it with the traditional red cloth used for mausoleums, and establishes his stronghold on the life of the people using the reflected power on him of the supposed saint. The novel shows his struggle with other religious figures trying to establish dominance and business using religion. Sayed Waliullah is famous Bangladeshi Author, short story writer and Playwright. Waliullah is often considered the pioneer of existential analysis of the characters psyche in the literature of Bangladesh.
