এই প্রজন্মের লেখকদের মধ্যে জয়ন্ত দে–র নাম পাঠকের কাছে বহু পরিচিত। সাংবাদিকতার পাশাপাশি জয়ন্ত একটি স্বাস্থ্য পত্রিকা সম্পাদনা করেন। তবে তাঁকে বেশি জনপ্রিয় করেছে গল্প–উপন্যাস। যদিও আর পাঁচটা ভাবুক কিশোর মতো জয়ন্তও লেখালিখি শুরু করেছিলেন কবিতা দিয়ে। পেশাগত কারণে তাঁকে নানা জায়গা ঘুরে বেড়াতে হয়। নানা ধরনের মানুষ, পরিবেশ, প্রকৃতি তাঁর মনে যে প্রভাব ফেলে, তাকেই গল্প–উপন্যাসে ধরে ফেলেন তিনি। ইতিমধ্যে জয়ন্তর ঝুলিতে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বাংলা আকাদেমির সোমেন চন্দ পুরস্কার, গল্পমেলা পুরস্কার, নমিতা চট্টোপাধ্যায় সাহিত্য পুরস্কার জমা হয়েছে। এবারের বইমেলায় প্রকাশিত হল ‘মৃত্যুর স্বাদ’। এতে রয়েছে দুটি উপন্যাস— মৃত্যুর স্বাদ ও রাধিকা রোমাঞ্চ। প্রথমটি রহস্য কাহিনীর মোড়কে রাজনৈতিক, অন্যটি সামাজিক। দুটিরই কেন্দ্রীয় চরিত্র আক্কেল বসু। ধর্মদাস ঘোষালের মৃত্যুতদন্তে আক্কেল নামে পুলিসে যোগ দেওয়ার পরে, অন্যদিকে মাতাজির পুত্রবধূ ও নাতিকে খোঁজার চক্রে জড়িয়ে পড়ে পুলিসে যোগ দেওয়ার আগেই। দুটো কাহিনীই বুননে, গতিতে টানটান।
