কলকাতার এক বিয়ের আসরে পাত্রের পিতা যৌতুক হিসেবে কন্যার পিতার যে টাকা দেবার কথা ছিল সেটা দাবি করছেন এবং টাকাটা বিয়ের আগে না দিলে তিনি পুত্রসহ বিদায় নেবেন এই হুমকিও দিচ্ছেন। কন্যার পিতা বলছেন তিনি আগামিকাল সকালেই টাকা দিয়ে দিবেন। বরের পিতা কিছুতেই রাজি হচ্ছেন না। কন্যার পিতা হঠাৎই বলে বসলেন ঠিক আছে টাকা দিব না আপনারা উঠে যান। এবার ভ্যাবা-চ্যাকা খেয়ে বর পক্ষ উঠে যেতে বাধ্য হলেন।এদিকে এই বিয়ের ডামা-ডোলে কেউ খেয়াল করেনি যে কন্যার পিতার ছোটবেলার বন্ধুর পুত্র এসে হাজির হয়েছে বিনা নিমন্ত্রণে। তাকে দেখে কন্যার পিতার মনে পরেছে যে তিনি তার বন্ধুকে কথা দিয়েছিলেন তার ছেলের সাথে কন্যার বিবাহ দিবেন। এখন তিনি সেই দেয়া কথাই পূরণ করলেন বন্ধুপুত্রের হাতে কন্যাকে অর্পন করে।
