শীর্ষেন্দু মুখোপাধ্যায় এর পার্থিব বইটা যেন আমাদের জীবনের এক কাহিনী, বিষ্ণুপদ-নয়নতারা এর সরল নির্ভেজাল দাম্পত্য জীবনের যে বর্ণনা দিয়েছেন তা আসলেই অন্য এক মাপের । বিষ্ণুপদের তিন ছেলের মধ্যে কৃষ্ণজীবন গ্রামের দরিদ্রতা ও সীমাবদ্ধতার মধ্যে থেকেও পড়াশুনা করে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক হিসাবে যোগদান করেন সাথে সাথে পরিবেশবিজ্ঞানী হিসাবে দেশ-বিদেশে তার নাম হয় , কিন্তু তারপরও তার সেই ছোট বিষ্ণুপুর গ্রামটি তাকে টানে । এই পৃথিবীর প্রতি তার অনেক মায়া কিন্তু পৃথিবী যে ধীরে ধীরে ধ্বংস হয়ে যাচ্ছে তা তিনি কাউকে বোঝাতে পারেন না তার স্ত্রীও তাকে বুঝতে পারে না। এই উপন্যাসে কৃষ্ণজীবন এর পরেই হেমাঙ্গ চরিত্র অনেক ভালো লেগেছে । শহরের যান্ত্রিক জীবনে একা থাকার ইচ্ছা এবং একঘেয়ে জীবন ভালো না লাগায় অচেনা নির্জন গ্রামে একা বসবাস এবং গ্রামের জীবনের সাথে খাপ খাওয়া, ভালোবাসার টানাপোড়েন, এইসব নিয়ে হেমাঙ্গর সাথে নিজের অনেক মিল খুঁজে পাওয়া যাবে। (Book Review: Good Reads)।
