The novel is so mush popular and criticized also for writings of adultness. Samaresh Bosu was born on December 11, 1924 in Bikrampur of erstwhile Bangladesh. He received little formal education. His childhood years were spent in Naihati. He came to Calcutta at the age of thirteen and worked hard to earn a living. He worked as an egg seller and did every sort of menial job in return for meagre wages. He worked in an ordnance factory for a few years in Ichhapore. He used to live in slums for quite a long time.
