Muhammed Zafar Iqbal is well known Bangladeshi author, physicist and Educationist. He is called the pioneer of Science Fiction writer in Bengali language and more popular as Children literature writer and columnist. Now he is professor of Computer Science and Engineering Technology in Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet and head of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the same university.
Muhammed Zafar Iqbal was born on 23 December 1952 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. His father was Faizur Rahman Ahmed (Police Officer) and mother was Ayesha Akter Khatun (Housewife). He was the second of the three sons to his parents. Due to his fathers job Muhammed Zafar Iqbal traveled various places of Bangladesh and studied many schools. His father was captured and killed by Pakistani Army during Liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal is inspired and motivated for writings by his father during childhood. He wrote his fist short story at the age of seven. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal passed Seconadary School Certificate (SSC) Examination from Bogra Zilla School in 1968 and Passed Higer Secondary Certificate Examination (HSC) from Dhaka College in 1970. Then He admitted in Dhaka University in physics department in 1972 and obtained Bsc Degree in 1976. After passed in BSc he went to United States and admitted in Washington University for PhD Degree and earned the degree in 1982. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal finished his Post Doctorate Degree from California Institute of Technology. His first writings story is “Celemanus”. In the age of seven he wrote first science fiction “Copotronic Valobasha” which was published in local Magazine. Then he wrote series of Science Fiction “Copotronic Shukh Dukho”. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal mainly writes for young readers. He is best known for novels and science fiction for youngsters.
His spouse Dr. Yasmine Hoque is a professor of Physics in Shahjalal Univeristy of Science & Technology, Sylhet. Elder brother of Muhammed Zafar Iqbal is Humayun Ahmed who was popular writer, dramatist, filmmaker of Bangladesh. His younger brother is Ahsan Habin who is cartoonist and Editor of a Fun Magazine.
He has got many awarded such as Shishu Academy Agrani Bank Shishu Shahitto Award (2001), Sheltech Literary Award (2003), Bangla Academy Award (2004), American Alimony Association Award (2005), Dhaka University Alimony Association Award (2005), Sylhet Naittamoncho Award (2005).
