প্রেম এ উপন্যাসের মুল বিষয়।কবির নাম নিতাই।ঠাকুরঝিকে ভালবাসে নিতাই কিন্তু মনে মনে।ভালবাসা কি লুকানো যায়?ঠাকুরঝি তা বুঝে নেয় এবং তার আর নিতাইয়ের মাঝে গড়ে ওঠে এক অপার্থিব প্রেম।যে প্রেম সমাজের কেউ মেনে নিবে না।একসময় জানা জানি হয়ে যায় ঠাকুরঝির সাথে নিতাই এর সম্পর্কের কথা।অন্যের ঘরনীকে ভালবাসার দায় নিয়ে কবি চলে যায় গ্রাম ছেড়ে।যুক্ত হয় ঝুমুর দলের সাথে।এই দলে অনেকগুলো মেয়ে আছে।সেইসব মেয়েদের কাজ হলো অশ্লীল নাচ-গানের মাধ্যমে নিজেকে বিক্রি করা।এটাই তাদের প্রধান জীবিকা। সেই ঝুমুর দলের কবিয়াল হিসেবে যোগ দেয় নিতাই।শুরু হয় অন্য এক প্রেমের গল্প,অন্য এক কবির গল্প।এরকম অসাধারন কিছু কবিতাও আছে উপন্যাসটিতে।আমার মনে হয় তারাশংকর বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের এই উপন্যাসটি সাথে অন্য কোন উপন্যাসর তুলনা না করাই ভাল হবে।

Kobi is a popular novel which is written by Tarashankar Bandopadhyay. Tarashankar Bandopadhyay is a popular author, poet and travel story writer of India. He has written more than 100 books and he has got many awards. He was born on 23 July 1898 in Birbhum Distric  and Died in 14 September 1971 in kolkata. His fathers  was Horidas Bandhopadhay and Mother was Provati debi. He passed Matriculation Exam in 1916 and admitted in college but his did not finished his university life for his political movement.
