পথের পাঁচালী (১৯২৯) হলো প্রখ্যাত সাহিত্যিক বিভূতিভূষণ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় রচিত একটি বিখ্যাত উপন্যাস। বাংলার গ্রামে দুই ভাইবোন অপু আর দুর্গার বেড়ে ওঠা নিয়েই বিখ্যাত এই উপন্যাস। এই উপন্যাসের ছোটদের জন্য সংস্করনটির নাম আম আঁটির ভেঁপু। পরবর্তী কালে বিখ্যাত বাঙালি চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক সত্যজিৎ রায় এই উপন্যাসটি অবলম্বনে পথের পাঁচালী (চলচ্চিত্র) নির্মান করেন যা পৃথিবী-বিখ্যাত হয়।
'অপু' চরিত্রটিই পথের পাঁচালীর প্রধান চরিত্র এবং এটি বিভূতিভূষণেরই শৈশব। অপু ছাড়াও অপুর বোণ 'দূর্গা', মা 'সর্বজয়া', বাবা 'হরিহর' আর অদ্ভুত এক চরিত্র 'ইন্দিরঠাকুরন'কে ঘিরে উপন্যাসে ফুটে উঠেছে একটি কাল ও কিছু জীবনের আন্তরিক ও মর্মভেদী চিত্র।
এই উপন্যাসের প্রথম অংশে আমরা তৎকালীন সমাজ ব্যবস্থার অন্যতম ত্রুটি বাল্যবিবাহ ও যৌতুককে প্রকট আকার ধারণ করতে দেখি। ইন্দিরঠাকুরনের বিয়ে অল্পবয়সে এমনই এক লোকের সাথে লোকের সাথে দেয়া হয়, যে বেশি যৌতুকের লোভে অন্যত্র বিয়ে করেন এবং আর কখনও ফিরে আসে না। তখন আয়হীন ইন্দিরঠাকুরনের স্থান হয় তার বাবার বাড়িতে, এবং তাদের ও তার ভাইয়ের মৃত্যুর পর তার দূরসম্পর্কের আত্মীয় হরিহরের বাড়িই তার স্থান হয়। সেখানে প্রতিমুহূর্তে তাকে মনে করিয়ে দেয়া হত যে সে একজন আশ্রিতা ছাড়া আর কেউ নয়। সে প্রায়শই বাড়ি থেকে বেরিয়ে যেত, কিন্তু দিনশেষে তার পথ এসে শেষ হত হরিহরের বাড়িতেই। একবার ঘটনাক্রমে বাড়ি থেকে তাকে একেবারে বের করে দেয়া হয় এবং মর্মান্তিকভাবে তার জীবনের ইতি ঘটে।

Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay is a popular Indian writer, novelist who is one of leading writer of bengali language. Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay born in 12th September, 1894 in his maternal uncle’s house in Ghoshpara-Muratipur village which was adjacent to Kanchrapara and died in 1st November, 1950. His original home was in Jessore. His first published short story was Uppekhito.
