বাংলা ভাষায় এডভেঞ্চার নিয়ে যত লেখা হয়েছে, তার মধ্যে এই উপন্যাসটি তার দুর্দান্ত পটভূমি-নির্মাণ, চরিত্র-চিত্রণ এবং সাসপেন্স সত্বেও বিশিষ্ট হয়ে আছে এর "শেষ হয়ে হইল না শেষ" পরিণতির জন্যে| উপন্যাসটি যখন আমি প্রথম পড়েছিলাম তখন এই কারণেই এটিকে আমি শুধু বিয়োগান্ত নয়, গভীরভাবে অতৃপ্তি-দায়ক একটি লেখা বলেই মনে করেছিলাম| বছর বিশেক এবং হাজার খানেক বই পেরিয়ে আসার পরে, আমার মুল্যায়নটা বদলেছে| এখন আমি মনে করি যে কলমের বিশাল জোর ছিল বলেই বিভূতিভূষণ এমন একটি এডভেঞ্চার লিখতে পেরেছিলেন যা, তার অদ্বিতীয়-রকম পরিসমাপ্তির জন্যে, এখনও আমাদের মাথার ইঞ্জিনকে সচল করে দিতে পারে, যাতে বাস্তবে না পারলেও, অন্তত মনে-মনে আমরাও বেরিয়ে পড়তে পারি ওই বিশেষ দ্বীপটির সন্ধানে, যেখানে এক দুর্লংঘ্য বাধার ওপারে আমাদের জন্যে অপেক্ষা করছে সম্রাটের ঐশ্বর্য!
